Affordable Social Housing

GB 1 YEAR PARTY cannot accept that Britain has 6 million people living in overcrowded and unfit housing and the situation is getting worse through lack of investment in affordable social housing. Major saving can be achieved on housing benefits claims costing over £17Billion per year by building more social housing. The GB 1 YEAR PARTY will contract the purchase of land and the biggest house building programme in Britain with contract to build 500,000 new homes being handed over the housing associations within 5 years. Councils will be instructed to issue improvement notices on 500,000 properties. Councils will be allowed lease and occupy empty properties for 25 years - cost of improvements and income from rents will be registered on local land charge and owners can apply to magistrates court for return of property. We do not accept that so many people are having to wait for decent housing and immigrants and asylum seekers arriving in this county are forced to live in unsatisfactory and sub standard housing because of housing shortages.
