Unelected Quangos

Save £25 Billion on 900 unelected quangos costing £170 billion a year - more than five times the budget of the Ministry of Defence. Quangos will be transferred where possible to Councils and a new government Quango Scrutiny and Monitoring Board will be set up for 1 year and be operating within 6 weeks and require all quangos to justify salaries, staffing levels, expenditure, work contacts, achievements - to explain consequence of 25% and 50% reduction in budgets. It is accepted there are efficiently run quangos such as Coal Authority, the British Waterways Board. Reports confirm problems such as pay, working hours, pensions, expenses. Investigations have shown that it is not unusual for people to start at 10am, have 3 hour lunches and finish at 4pm, only work 2 days per week and work for more than one quango.
