Unemployment

To reduce employment and youth unemployment technical colleges will be instructed to expand and provide free training for skill shortages including IT and building trades eg bricklayers, electricians and other building trades to ensure new building targets are met and construction staff are available through apprenticeships. Minimum percentage of British workers will be required on all large building contracts or other government projects. Foreign workers will be welcome where training has not provided sufficient skills people and genuine vacancies cannot be filled.

Employers will be given tax incentives to implement training programmes in order to reduce unemployment and youth unemployment. Funding will be directed at providing 300,000 new jobs including apprenticeship jobs in building and industrial service trades, mentoring and training for graduates and general training programmes for all other general jobs where skills are required. Employers will issue certificates for all training completed.
